Known on the internet as Robokid, the producer-DJ-remixer turned singer-songwriter has been crafting his debut EP — Apart — with progressive electronic beats and indie-pop hooks. In an age where the veil of privacy is thinning, he gives an intimate take inside his personal life and psyche.
A lifelong musician, heavily inspired by electronic, indie, pop & emo/post-hardcore music, he began to write his own music soon after forming several bands with childhood friends in grade school. The producer, born Ethan Budnick in Providence, RI, didn’t have aspirations to be a professional musician until he began experimenting with hip-hop and electronic production at the age of 17, making beats for his friends in high school to rap and sing over. In 2013 he connected with fellow Moving Castle co-founders AOBeats & Manila Killa after posting a remix of Lana Del Rey to Soundcloud. After touring the US as a DJ and leaving Boston in 2015 to work on building Moving Castle in Los Angeles, Robokid continued to develop and find his sound by working alongside artists like Blaise Railey, Brenton Duvall, Mark Johns, and Sakima.
